Bill Gates surprises Reddit user as her secret Santa

Redditgifts is a giant online gift exchange program that started connecting internet strangers-friends around the world with one another in 2009. Last year the exchange had 44,805 people participate in Secret Santa 2012 and this year it is going to hit even higher numbers.

This year one of the participant’s secret Santa turned out to be none other than Bill Gates, but the exchange only listed only listed his first name and not his full name, which would have ousted him as the former CEO of one of the largest companies in the world.

“I thought Bill sounded like a friendly fellow,” Rachel said. “In fact, I had this whole image of this poor guy named Bill trying to navigate my wish list full of makeup, nail polish, glittery things to buy me. Quite frankly, I felt bad for this Bill,” Rachel said in a follow-up post on Reddit.

Bill Gates ended up sending the recipient who was only identified only as Rachel, a stuffed animal, a National Geographic coffee table book entitled “Journeys of a Lifetime.” and a donation to Heifer International made on Rachel’s behalf

“My God. Never in my entire life did I imagine, ever, ever, ever that Bill would get me,” Rachel wrote in her post. “I am SO SO thankful for the time, thought ,and energy he put into my gift, and especially thankful for him over-nighting it :)”

One gift Bill did not send though was an iPad that was on Rachel’s list. This is understandable since the companies are rivals in the tablet market, but with his deep pockets he could have sent a Surface Pro and got her to jump off the Apple bandwagon.
