IFixIt Tears Down Steam Box
The team over at IFixIt are amount the lucky 300 beta testers and like always they did a tear down of the system to show us what it is made of. They specced out the parts at nearly $1400 and for all intents and purposes it is essentially a PC with minor tweaks. The hardware included a Zotac NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB graphics card, 1TB Seagate hybrid SSHD drive, 16GB of DDR3 RAM, an Intel Core i5-4570 CPU clocked to 3.6GHz and a 450W power supply.
“If last month’s round of next-gen console launches left you in a fog, prepare yourself for the incoming Steam Machine. Valve has released only 300 beta kits into the wild, so grab your companion cube and hold tight—we’re about to open one up.”
